You are not (just) American.
You are not (just) white or black or green or orange.
(You are not an orange. Period. Or a pineapple. ALTHOUGH I DO LOVE PINEAPPLE!)
You are not (just) a republican, or (just) a democrat, or something in between. Or a communist. That’s a thing, too.
You are not your job. The stuff you own. The salary you earn. The car you drive (or don’t — or wish that you did).
You are: you. And that is enough.
You are limited to
three cubicle walls your own imagination.
You are bound to
worthless objects valuable people who make you feel whole.
material possessions around community.
You are: you. And that is okay.
So close your eyes, casual dreamer.
Turn off the television, put down the phone, postpone that post, unfilter that photo, don’t filter your mind, unteach yourself, learn to unlearn, know you know nothing–it’s the first step to learning more.
You are: you. Which no else could dare to be.
